Alison M. Hamer


Alison Hamer is an associate in the firm’s Los Angeles office. Her practice involves all areas of employment and labor law, including discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, unfair competition, and wage and hour. She represents employers in single plaintiff and class action litigation in both state and federal courts, as well as in arbitration.  She has successfully represented employers before administrative agencies including the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and California Division of Labor Standards Enforcement.

Additionally, Alison advises management regarding employment law practices relating to hiring, disciplining and terminating employees, managing disability accommodations and medical leaves of absence, and wage and hour issues. She further provides preventative counseling to employers by drafting and auditing employee handbooks, arbitration and employee agreements, and employment policies.
Alison received her J.D. degree, summa cum laude, from Southwestern Law School, where she was a member of the Southwestern Law Review. Alison received her B.S. degree, magna cum laude, from California State University, Northridge.

Representative Matters

  • On behalf of a university, obtained dismissal of a race discrimination lawsuit brought by a tenured university faculty member who was dismissed for cause
  • Won terminating sanctions in a case in which the opposing party abused the discovery process 
  • Obtained summary judgment against former union worker's lawsuit for disability discrimination, unlawful administration of medical leave, and invastion of privacy
  • Obtained summary judgment of former employee's lawsuit alleging whistleblower wrongful termination 
  • Successfully enforced arbitration agreements on behalf of several clients in employment discrimination cases
  • On behalf of a university, obtained summary adjudication of former worker’s claims of disability-based discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and defamation
  • Obtained summary adjudication of PAGA claim in which the plaintiff alleged he and other workers were misclassified as independent contractors and not paid overtime wages 
  • Following a two-week arbitration, obtained complete defense verdict on breach of contract claims filed against our client and prevailed on cross-complaint, resulting in an order for the claimant to pay our client nearly one million dollars  
  • Obtained dismissal with prejudice of a complaint for breach of contract via demurrer
  • After a contested hearing, obtained permanent restraining order prohibiting civil harassment 
  • Obtained substantial monetary judgment against a former employee who engaged in trade libel and intentional interference with contractual relations
  • Represented employers in complex wage and hour class action litigation and negotiated favorable settlements representing millions of dollars in savings
  • Successfully enforced contested arbitration agreements on behalf of multiple clients in employment discrimination, wage and hour, and education cases
